The present report is the supplement to Vinyl Chloride, Process Economics Program (PEP) Report No. 5. The principal stimulus for the initiation of a supplementary report was the acquisition of additional and new information on processes generally based on ethane or methane as raw materials. While there was no indication that any such processes have been developed to the point of commercialization, they can obviously be of great potential interest. The present report also provides an opportunity for evaluating new information and developments on general processes included in the original report. Moreover, it has enabled exploring some significant alternatives in the processes previously considered and estimating the costs of hydrogen chloride purification and of waste disposal systems.
