This supplement to the Process Economics Program (PEP) Report No. 60, "Proteins from Hydrocarbons," issued in February 1970 reports the current industry status; updates the process review and process economics for the production of proteins from n-paraffins, gas oil, and methane (natural gas); and includes the process review and process economics for the production of proteins from ethanol and methanol. The appendices include the guidelines set by the Protein Advisory Group of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and patent summaries on some of the fermenters for protein production from hydrocarbons and some of the treatment methods for cells. This supplement excludes review of synthetic ethanol and methanol since they were the subjects of PEP Report Nos. 53 and 43. Sources for the technical and statistical information used in this supplement are domestic and foreign patents, trade and technical journals and books, equipment vendors, and private communications.
