Flame-retardant polyols are used in polyurethane formulations. The term "flame-retardant" as used here means that the polyurethane made from these polyols has a higher rating in flame retardance by some specific tests than does polyurethane made from conventional polyols. For the implications of flame retardancy tests, refer to pp. 30-31 of PEP Report 92 on flame-retardant additives for plastics.
The current report evaluates the economics of producing polyols containing halogen or halogen and phosphorus. It also updates the costs of producing the phosphorus-containing polyols evaluated in PEP Report 45, "Polyols from Ethylene Oxide and Propylene Oxide."
The commercial aspects of the polyols evaluated in the current report are discussed in the Summary, thus there is no Industry Status Section.
