In this report we examine the technology for making polypropylene by processes in which the reaction is carried out in a slurry medium.
Section 4 discusses several commercially available catalyst systems. Section 5, which updates the design presented in PEP Report No. 126, describes the production of poly-propylene by a loop reactor process. Section 6 describes the production of polypropylene by a stirred tank process that uses a heavy diluent. Section 7, which updates a design presented in PEP Review No. 81-2-2, describes the use of a reactor in which the heat of polymerization is removed by boiling the monomer.
In addition, we present two processes to produce polypropylene block copolymers. Those processes, which are associated with the loop and boiling monomer processes, are presented in Sections 5 and 7, respectively.
