This report concerns the technology and economics of plastic film production. The emphasis is on packaging films, which represent over half of all plastic film. Special films such as fluorocarbon, polyimide, magnetic recording tape, and the like, are not included. The variety of plastic films and film production methods is very large. The economics in this report illustrate the production costs of the more popular plastic films by the most commonly used processes:
- Polyethylene films by bubble blowing
- Unoriented polypropylene film by chill-roll-casting
- Biaxially oriented polypropylene film by chill-roll-casting and tentering
- Biaxially oriented polypropylene film by double-bubble blowing
- Biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate film by chill-roll-casting and tentering
- Coextruded films by bubble blowing
- Coextruded films by chill-roll-casting and tentering.
