A new state-of-the-art acid gas removal process licensed by Fluor called the CO2LDSepSM process has been proposed.
Carbon dioxide is separated from partial oxidation and gasification process gases using autorefrigeration. A feed gas containing carbon dioxide is compressed and then expanded to reduce the parasitic load required for removal of acid gas from synthesis gas which then liquefies and separates carbon dioxide from the other components in the feed gas. The technology can have widespread uses. Carbon dioxide may be removed from the following applications: fertilizer plants, chemical plants, refineries, gasification plants, landfills and natural gas supplies.
The uses for the liquid carbon dioxide obtained from the acid gas removal technology could be for the carbonation of beverages, metal-inert gas (MIG) welding, inert gas blanketing, beer making and dry cleaning. Another use would be for enhanced oil recovery (EOR).
