This review evaluates and compares the economics of several technologies for removing H2S, COS and CO2 from synthesis gas produced via coal gasification. Included in the study are physical solvent based systems that use methanol (Rectisol) or polyglymes (Selexol) as the selective absorbents and a chemical solvent based system (aqueous diethanolamine). Feed basis is synthesis gas from a large scale Texaco gasification system before or after shifting. For the purpose of the study the same basic two stage flow scheme is used for the Rectisol (before and after shift feeds) and Selexol (after shift feed) processes. The first stage removes the H2S and the second stage the CO2. The DEA case is evaluated only for second stage CO2 removal.
