In October 2019, the Finance Ministry published a circular increasing the statutory Foreign Portfolio Investor (FPI) limit of Indian companies to their respective sectoral limit effective April 1, 2020. Companies were given the option to restrict their FPI limits to a lower threshold with the approval of their Board of Directors and shareholders before March 31, 2020. As a result of this new policy, the National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) & the Central Depository Services Limited (CDSL) have recently published new Foreign Ownership Limits for Indian companies.
