The S&P Kensho Smart Buildings Index is designed to measure the performance of companies involved in the smart buildings/connected home industry, which enables buildings to become more connected, intelligent, and adaptive.

A subsector index within the S&P Kensho New Economy Index Series, the S&P Kensho Smart Buildings Index intends to represent companies that are focused on making the spaces in which people reside, learn, and conduct business more liveable, energy efficient, and cost effective. Smart buildings provide people more control over, convenience from, and data on the structures in which they live, work, and play. For example, smart buildings can: more efficiently modulate energy usage; more securely restrict or monitor access; and provide remote or refined control of temperature, ventilation, and entertainment systems.
