Economic Research: Emerging Markets: Have Policy Rates Deviated From Simple Taylor Rule-like Prescription?

The frequently used Taylor rule is handy in providing a rough sense on whether central bank policy rate is at a reasonable level and where it may be headed. Using a variant of original Taylor rule, we find that most inflation targeting central bank policy rates in major emerging market economies (with floating exchange rates) have not strayed too far from such easy to understand rule-based prescription.
