9:05 a.m. | CEO Perspectives on Energy Transition
The North America regulated utility industry is undergoing a historic transition to meet zero carbon emission goals. This includes the closing of coal-fired generation, increasing our reliance on renewable energy, and integrating a rising percentage of electric vehicles. We expect that the customer bill will rise, which could potentially pressure regulatory risk and credit quality. Our industry leaders will discuss how they are navigating through this historic opportunity.
Moderator: Gabe Grosberg, Sector Lead, North American Regulated Utilities, S&P Global Ratings
John Ketchum, CEO, NextEra
Nick Akins, CEO, American Electric Power Co.
Pedro Pizarro, CEO, Edison International
10:05 a.m. | Going for Gold: Achieving the Transformation of Infrastructure for the LA Olympics
In 2028, Los Angeles will host the Summer Olympic Games. Mayor Eric Garcetti’s plan to transform public transit in LA includes about 28 transportation projects before the Games start. Mega projects such as Inglewood Transit Connector and Automated People Mover at LAX airport are just two of the transit initiatives that aim to support the goal of a “car-free” Games. The panel will discuss what it will take to meet this aspiration in the context of the ongoing multi-billion-dollar expansion of LA’s subway, light rail and other transportation projects already under construction, including connectivity and community support. Social and environmental justice will be criteria for the estimated investment of about $43 billion sourced by both local and federal institutions.
Moderator: Trevor d’Olier-Lees, Sector Lead, P3, Project Finance and Renewables, S&P Global Ratings
Dale Bonner, Executive Chairman, Plenary Concessions - Americas
Duane Callender, Director - Credit Programs Office, Build America Bureau, U.S. Department of Transportation
