GIG, Bluestone Energy to develop up to 2 GW of battery storage in UK

Macquarie Group Ltd.-owned Green Investment Group Ltd. and renewable energy developer Bluestone Energy Ltd. entered an agreement to develop up to 2 GW of battery storage projects in the U.K.

The partnership has 970 MW of projects in early-stage development with secured grid connection offers, according to a June 14 news release.

In 2021, Green Investment Group acquired a 187-MW/187-MWh portfolio of battery storage projects under development in the U.K. from Capbal Ltd.

The U.K. aims to be net-zero by 2050.
