Riot Games Inc. completed its acquisition of Canada-based Hypixel Studios Inc. for an undisclosed sum.
Riot Games, the developer of "League of Legends," has previously infused cash in Hypixel as an angel investor. Hypixel expects its developed game, "Hytale," which received more than 2.5 million signups for its beta, to be available to the public in 2021.
Following the deal, Hypixel Studios will retain its current structure. The acquired company will also open a permanent office in Londonderry in Northern Ireland which will serve as a back-office and quality assurance hub. Hypixel Studios will hire 20 employees for the new office.
In a separate announcement, Riot Games also said it will open a new development studio in Singapore later this year. The studio will be its second in Asia, after its Hong Kong studio established in 2016.
The Singapore studio will focus primarily on upcoming games and will also support existing titles. The Singapore office will also work closely with the Hong Kong office.
