Dow Jones Best-in-Class Indices Methodology
Index Objective and Highlights
The Dow Jones Best-in-Class Indices are float-adjusted market capitalization (FMC) weighted indices measuring the performance of companies selected from an Invited Universe that satisfy specific criteria based on the S&P Global CSA Scores using a best-in-class approach. The index family includes subindices that apply exclusions based on companies’ involvement in specific business activities. S&P Dow Jones Indices partners with S&P Global Sustainable1, to provide investors with objective benchmarks..
Index Family
The index family consists of the following three geographical breakdowns:
- • Dow Jones Best-in-Class World
- • Dow Jones Best-in-Class Regions
- • Dow Jones Best-in-Class Countries
Indices within these geographical divisions use different starting universes and different percentiles to mark the cutoff point in selecting the higher ranked companies by S&P Global CSA Score (see Constituent Selection for details). This means that the emerging markets, country and regional indices are not simply sub-indices of the Dow Jones Best-in-Class World, and there is no roll up of indices from country to region, to world.
All other indices are subsets of the above benchmarks.
