Tencent Sports strikes deal to show English Premier League matches in China

The English Premier League entered into a partnership with Tencent Holdings Ltd.'s digital content platform, Tencent Sports, to show the remainder of the 2020/21 season to fans in China.

Under the partnership, Tencent Sports will show all 372 remaining Premier League matches live to the supporters in China. Additionally, fans will be able to follow the latest updates and news about their favorite clubs and players via Tencent's digital platforms, including WeChat, QQ.com, Tencent Video, Penguin Live App, Tencent News App, Tencent Sports App and Kan Dian.

The Premier League will also launch an official Penguin Channel across Tencent's content platforms, where supporters will be able to enjoy a daily content mix of videos and features about the Premier League competition, its clubs and players.

Tencent will make more than half of the matches available for free, while the remaining fixtures will be available on Tencent Sports' membership service.

The English football's top tier earlier terminated its previous £564 million distribution deal in China with PPTV, a streaming service owned by Chinese retail conglomerate Suning Holdings Group Co. Ltd., according to a BBC report.
