South Asian entertainment streaming platform Eros Now achieved 36.2 million paid subscribers and 211.5 million registered users globally as of Sept. 30.
The figures represent an additional 6.9 million net new paid users over the past six months for the Eros STX Global Corp.-owned platform, according to a Nov. 18 statement.
Eros Now attributes the subscriber growth to its investments in original content and technology. The platform has a tie-up with Microsoft Corp. that entails the uploading of its content to a Microsoft Azure-based central repository for video distribution via satellite. The distribution mode is expected to benefit over-the-top users in India, Southeast Asia and Africa, where more than half of the population has intermittent internet and internet video access.
Eros Now Select, a version of Eros Now, became available to U.S. customers in April. It also launched in India through Apple TV channels on Apple Inc.'s Apple TV app.
Eros STX, a global entertainment company that acquires, co-produces and distributes films, digital content and music, was formed from the merger of Eros International PLC and STX Entertainment.
