Global private equity deals increased 6% in April to $98.81 billion in gross value from $93.28 billion in the same month of 2021, according to S&P Global Market Intelligence data.
However, the number of transactions announced during the month declined 22.2% year over year to 1,611.
The total deal value for the first four months of 2022 stood at $342 billion, which was down 4.3% from the corresponding period of 2021. The number of transactions inched up 1.8% year over year to 8,080.
The U.S. and Canada hosted most of the deals in April with 570 transactions and a total value of $45.57 billion. Asia-Pacific logged 525 deals at an aggregate valuation of $39.87 billion. Europe came in third with 433 transactions totaling $11.43 billion.
The technology, media and telecommunications sector attracted the most capital during the month, garnering $40.11 billion in total transaction value, compared to $39.49 billion recorded in the year-ago period.
Gross deal value in the healthcare sector jumped more than 220% year over year to reach $30.36 billion in April, while industrial companies recorded $10.35 billion, down from $14.67 billion in the same month in 2021.
The $805 million series J round of India-based application software company VerSe' Innovation Pte. Ltd. and the $690 million funding round of Singapore-based Coda Payments Pte. Ltd. were the largest completed deals in April.
The largest announced deals in April were the $21.38 billion acquisition of Ramsay Health Care Ltd. by a KKR & Co. Inc.-led consortium and the $8.31 billion takeover of CDK Global by Brookfield Business Partners LP.
