U.K. consumer prices are rising at a rate not seen in decades, pushing policy and mortgage rates to multi-year highs. For a sample of 107,439 loans backing U.K. buy-to-let (BTL) residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBS) transactions that we rate, we simulated the effects of 300 basis points (bps; moderate scenario) and 500 bps (severe scenario) increases in mortgage rates on monthly payments and debt service coverage ratios (DSCRs).
