North America's market for new medium and heavy trucks and buses has defied weakness in US truck tractor registrations, seemingly, and appears on track for demand to reach almost the same level in 2024 as in 2023. Beneath the surface, though, some of the drivers of demand have shifted, and questions remain on prospects for sales and production through the year 2027, when new diesel emissions standards are due to take effect. From a powertrain and electrification standpoint, new trends are evident both among vehicles with internal combustion engines and those with zero emissions propulsion solutions.
Regulatory compliance is shaping the future of internal combustion engines, with stricter emission standards driving the need for cleaner and more fuel-efficient trucks. Simultaneously, investment plans, new product launches, and zero-emission-focused regulations signal greater adoption of electrified trucks, even as the pace of adoption has been somewhat below expectations over the past 12 to 24 months.
The year 2024 will reveal new information about the final GHG Phase III regulation; the promising outlook for natural gas-powered trucks; ongoing advancements and announcements regarding new zero-emission vehicle products and partnerships; and of course, the 2024 United States Presidential Election. This webinar will focus on the short- and medium-term time horizons to 2031 and highlight how the market will change through this decade.
