Comcast, Netflix to bundle streaming service in Xfinity packages

Comcast Corp. and Netflix Inc. are strengthening their previous partnership in a move that will enable Comcast to include a Netflix subscription in new and existing service packages.

The companies said April 13 that Comcast will launch a variety of initial offers this month that include a Netflix subscription. Offers and availability will vary by market. Netflix-related billing will be handled directly by the cable company.

The move expands on an existing agreement between the two companies under which Comcast launched Netflix on the X1 platform in 2016. According to the pair, Netflix has quickly become one of the most highly viewed services on the X1 platform. Presently, X1 platform is in 60% of Comcast video customer homes.

Going forward, it remains unclear whether Comcast will bundle a Netflix streaming video subscription with its Xfinity internet offering without requiring a pay TV service. Presently, accessing Netflix on Comcast's X1 requires an eligible X1 set-top box with XFINITY TV and XFINITY internet service.
