The Netherlands' Public Prosecution Service launched a probe into Tata Steel Ltd. on whether it intentionally and unlawfully released hazardous substances into the soil, air or surface water surrounding the Tata Steel IJmuiden BV facility, Bloomberg Green reported.
According to the report, the Dutch public health agency found that concentrations of metals and carcinogens around the IJmuiden factory surpass the company's disclosed figures and may pose public health risks.
Tata Steel said it will cooperate with the prosecutors and is looking forward to the investigation's results.
The company previously outlined plans to convert the IJmuiden facility to utilize hydrogen.
