SSE PLC appointed John Manzoni as the new board chair. He is scheduled to succeed outgoing SEE board Chair Richard Gillingwater on April 1, 2021.

Manzoni will initially join the board of directors as non-executive director beginning Sept. 1, according to a July 28 news release, and work closely with Gillingwater to ensure a smooth transition.

Manzoni has held senior executive roles at BP PLC and Talisman Energy NS Ltd before serving as the U.K. chief executive of the civil service and permanent secretary of the Cabinet office. Most recently, he was a non-executive director at Diageo PLC.

Richard Gillingwater became SSE chairman in July 2015.
