Over the next seven weeks, 23 members of the S&P 500 are expected to report quarterly earnings, including Intuit Inc. and HP Inc., according to S&P Global Market Intelligence data.
Week of Aug. 22: 11 companies to report
Analysts expect Advance Auto Parts Inc. to report a 10.4% increase in quarterly earnings per share year over year, while Intuit is expected to report a 50.1% drop.
Week of Aug. 29: 9 companies to report
Broadcom Inc. and Brown-Forman Corp. are expected to report 37.3% and 18.6% increases in quarterly EPS year over year, respectively. Meanwhile, quarterly EPS at HP is expected to increase 4.9% year over year.
Week of Sept. 19: 1 company to report
Costco Wholesale Corp. is expected to report a 6.5% increase in quarterly earnings per share year over year and a 14.2% increase in revenue.
Week of Sept. 26: 2 companies to report
Analysts expect Paychex Inc. to report 9.1% increase in quarterly EPS from the year-ago period, while CarMax Inc. is expected to report a 15.0% decline.
Sector outlook
Analysts expect seven of the 11 sectors in the S&P 500 will post year-over-year EPS gains this earnings season.
The energy sector is expected to lead the pack with a 300.5% increase in EPS year over year. The financials group is expected to report a 19.7% decline.
Last week, Home Depot Inc. reported $5.05 in normalized quarterly EPS, beating the consensus estimate by 12 cents per share.
Walmart Inc. reported $1.77 in normalized quarterly EPS, besting the consensus estimate by 17 cents.
