REIT Replay: US REIT stocks drop for second consecutive week

Share prices for U.S. equity real estate investment trusts dropped alongside the broader market during the week ended Jan. 14.

The Dow Jones Equity All REIT index finished the week down 1.53%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 decreased 0.88% and 0.30%, respectively.

The industrial and retail sectors posted the largest declines for the week, down 1.50% and 1.06%, respectively.

The worst-performing companies were retail REIT Seritage Growth Properties, down 7.92% from the previous week, and communications-focused SBA Communications Corp. dropping 6.22%.

Communications REIT American Tower Corp. had the third-largest decrease at 5.99%.

Alternatively, Power REIT, an energy infrastructure REIT, recorded the largest week-over-week increase in share price at 12.84%. Hotel REITs Ashford Hospitality Trust Inc. and Braemar Hotels & Resorts Inc. posted the next largest increases at 7.74% and 5.83%, respectively.
