Amsterdam-based Prosus NV is in talks with Just Eat Takeaway.com NV to buy part or all of its 33% stake in Brazilian food delivery startup iFood, Bloomberg News reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
The stake could be valued at about $750 million to $1 billion in a sale, according to the report. However, there is no certainty the talks will result in an agreement, and other potential buyers for the iFood stake could emerge, the sources said.
Naspers Ltd.-controlled Prosus already has a 54.7% stake in iFood, according to its latest annual report.
"Just Eat Takeaway.com has said that they want to sell their shares, and obviously at the right price, we will certainly consider increasing our stake," Prosus CEO Bob van Dijk reportedly told Bloomberg in a recent interview.
Representatives of Prosus, Just Eat Takeaway and iFood declined to comment on the news, Bloomberg said.
Just Eat Takeaway was formed earlier this year after Takeaway.com NV agreed to merge with Just Eat PLC after the latter beat Prosus' takeover offer.
