PowerSouth inks deal for output of 80-MW solar project to be built in Alabama

PowerSouth Energy Cooperative signed an agreement to purchase the output of Origis Energy USA Inc.'s planned 80-MW solar project in Covington County, Ala.

The agreement for the Wing Solar project will help diversify the co-op's energy mix. "Solar energy is a cost-effective resource for a portion of our energy needs," PowerSouth President and CEO Gary Smith said in an April 29 statement.

The solar project is scheduled to come online in late 2022.

PowerSouth is a generation and transmission cooperative that serves the wholesale energy needs of 16 electric cooperatives and four municipal electric systems in Alabama and northwestern Florida.
