Oilfield services provider Halliburton Co. will cut 216 positions as part of its ongoing workforce reduction, the Houston Business Journal reported Dec. 21.
The layoffs will occur at a Carrollton, Texas-based facility of Halliburton subsidiary Halliburton Energy Services Inc. The company in a filing with the Texas Workforce Commission said the layoffs are anticipated to be permanent, according to the report.
"Due to the unprecedented challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic and the global market impact continuing to be felt throughout the industry, [Halliburton Energy Services] continued to experience layoffs," the Houston Business Journal quoted Halliburton as saying.
In May, Halliburton laid off about 1,000 workers from its headquarters in Houston after slashing 625 of its staff from facilities in Texas and Oklahoma in April.
In March, the company also executed a mandatory 60-day furlough for 3,500 of its employees at one of its Houston campuses in order to manage costs.
