GTT hires Akin Gump's Maynard as general counsel

GTT Communications Inc. has hired Douglass B. Maynard as general counsel, effective today, according to a Form 8-K filing. Christopher McKee, the prior general counsel and executive vice president, corporate development, has been named division president, infrastructure. Maynard most recently was general counsel of the law firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP from February 2016 through March 2021.

Maynard was an Akin Gump partner from August 2002 to December 2012 and again from August 2014 to March 2021. From January 2013 to July 2014, he was deputy commissioner, legal matters for the New York City Police Department.

The change in general counsel comes on the same day that, according to a Form 8-K filing on Feb. 16, GTT is due to provide advisors to "certain ad hoc groups of creditors that are lenders under the new term loan facility" with a good faith proposal with respect to a deleveraging transaction. As a next step, the company also is expected to "work in good faith" to enter into an agreement by March 31 that deleverages "the company's consolidated capital structure."

GTT is rated CCC- with a negative outlook by S&P Global Ratings.

GTT provides cloud networking services to multinational enterprises, carriers and government customers.
