Goosehead Insurance Inc. has fired associate general counsel Paul Davis after the lawyer posted livestreamed videos of himself during the U.S. Capitol breach Jan. 6, Bloomberg Law reported.
Davis' livestreams went viral on social media after he posted videos on Instagram that placed him outside the Capitol building during the breach, according to the report. Roger Sollenberger, a staff writer for Salon.com, shared the videos on Twitter and tagged Goosehead Insurance's Twitter account.
The U.S. Capitol Complex was placed on lockdown Jan. 6 after pro-Trump protesters stormed the House side of the Capitol building as they called to overturn the election results. The unrest delayed the formal certification of President-elect Joe Biden's victory and reportedly led to at least four deaths and at least a dozen injuries.
Goosehead Insurance CEO Mark Jones confirmed Davis' firing, writing in an internal email obtained by Bloomberg Law that the insurance broker was not aware of his plans to be part of the "violent demonstration" and added that it does not condone violent or illegal acts.
While Goosehead Insurance supports its employees' right to vote and express themselves politically, "those rights do not — and cannot — extend to violence in any form," Jones said.
