Former employee files suit against Wells Fargo Bank for gender discrimination

Wells Fargo Bank NA is facing a lawsuit filed by a former employee over alleged gender discrimination, Equal Pay Act violations and unlawful retaliation.

Raena Krestovnikov filed her complaint with the Los Angeles County Superior Court, according to a press release from her legal counsel, Los Angeles-based Helmer Friedman LLP.

Krestovnikov, a former home mortgage consultant at the bank, accused Wells Fargo of not providing her the same level of benefits and compensation given to her male colleagues and refusing to pay her commission wages she had earned.

Krestovnikov claimed that she was fired in retaliation for raising the issue to management and for her decision to retain counsel. She added that her supervisor refused to meet with her over work-related matters, and she was fired shortly thereafter.

Krestovnikov said she was supposed to get from the company between $200,000 and $800,000 in commissions but was instead asked to return $1,000 that the company said it had overpaid her, according to an Aug. 12 report from National Mortgage News.

Wells Fargo declined to give the news outlet comment on the lawsuit, stating it was reviewing the complaint and adding that the company opposes discrimination of any kind.
