EEW Eco Energy World PLC said March 10 that it is set to develop one of the world's largest green hydrogen and solar photovoltaic projects in Queensland, Australia, at an estimated total cost of A$500 million.
The group has already developed a 300-MW solar asset in the region, which is ready to build. EEW now plans to combine that plant with the project to produce renewable energy for green hydrogen production, developing a 200-MW hydrogen plant with a further 100-MW allocated to energy storage.
The hydrogen plant will produce 33,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year using electrolyzer technology. Project construction will start as early as the third quarter of 2022.
The company has subsequently entered into a partnership with an unnamed hydrogen electrolyzer manufacturer as a technology partner.
"[E]xisting gas pipeline infrastructure, access to a deep-water export port at Gladstone and significant solar resources ... make [Queensland] an extremely attractive location for this emerging industry," said EEW Chairman Svante Kumlin. "[I]t now makes sense for us to enter this exciting market as we see the ongoing growth in large-scale electrolyzer production and that consequently, capex costs are rapidly falling."
Kumlin added that EEW would seek a public listing on an international stock exchange in 2021.
