EDP - Energias de Portugal SA finalized an agreement with Burger King Corp. for the installation of solar photovoltaic panels at about 300 of its restaurants in Spain.
With the partnership, Burger King will be able to produce and consume renewable energy in its free-standing facilities, thus reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and energy saving, according to a Feb. 15 news release.
The plan foresees the installation of more than 12,000 photovoltaic panels, occupying an area of 25,000 square meters. The panels are expected to reach more than 5 MWp of total installed capacity, allowing enough generation to supply 2,000 homes.
The partnership will also soon expand to the restaurants managed by Burger King in Portugal, the companies said.
