Clearway Energy breaks ground on 345-MW Texas wind farm after closing financing

Clearway Energy Group LLC commenced construction on the 345-MW Mesquite Sky wind farm in Callahan County, Texas, after closing $427 million in debt financing for the project.

Mizuho Bank Ltd. acted as the coordinating lead arranger. Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, MUFG Bank Ltd., Santander Bank NA and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp. served as mandated lead arrangers.

Once operational in late 2021, Mesquite Sky will sell power to Deere & Co. and Whirlpool Corp. under long-term virtual power purchase agreements.

The project will host 69 Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA turbines. Blattner Energy Inc. is leading construction of the project, which was originally developed by NorthRenew Energy LLC.

In December 2020, Clearway Energy announced a joint equity transaction for a 1.6-GW portfolio that included Mesquite Sky.
