Barclays PLC has appointed Gautam Chawla vice chairman of financial institutions group banking.

Chawla, who will be based in New York, was previously co-head of global insurance and North American financial institutions group at Citigroup Inc. and will join Barclays at the end of July, the U.K.-based lender said June 5.

He will report to Tim Main, Barclays' global head of financial institutions group banking.
