German telecom operator 1&1 Drillisch AG said Feb. 15 that it struck deals with affiliate 1&1 Versatel, Deutsche Telekom AG and Telefónica SA unit Telefónica Deutschland Holding AG to accelerate its plans to launch a 5G network in the country.
Under one of the agreements effective April 1, 1&1 Drillisch will expand its fiber optic offering and receive all very high-speed digital subscriber line, or VDSL, and fiber-to-the-home, or FTTH, services from 1&1 Versatel.
1&1 Drillisch also struck an agreement with Deutsche Telekom that allows 1&1 Versatel to provide FTTH and VDSL packages for the company. The FTTH acquisition has a 10-year term. The deal between 1&1 Versatel and Deutsche Telekom is subject to the Federal Network Agency's approval.
Meanwhile, the telco's deal with Telefónica Deutschland on national roaming and MBA mobile virtual network operator advance services is expected to have a positive earnings effect of about €34 million for 1&1 Drillisch for its fiscal year 2020.
United Internet AG owns 1&1 Drillisch.
