Raghu Ramachandran is the Head of S&P Dow Jones Indices’ (S&P DJI) Insurance Asset Channel. In this role, he is responsible for applying S&P DJI resources to solve problems for insurance companies. Raghu works on how indices are used to create innovative products for insurance companies, benchmarking general account portfolios and the use of ETFs by insurance companies.

Prior to joining S&P DJI, Raghu was CIO at a P&C and a Life insurance company. Prior to working at insurance companies, Raghu was an insurance portfolio manager and head of the portfolio strategy group for Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. Previously, Raghu also worked at Tillinghast (now Willis Towers Watson), developing stochastic modeling tools. He has extensive experience in portfolio and liquidity management, portfolio strategy, hedging, product development, and stochastic modelling.

Raghu has a bachelor’s in physics and a bachelor’s in astronomy from the University of Texas at Austin. Raghu regularly writes and speaks about investment issues related to insurance. Each year, Raghu publishes an analysis of ETF usage by insurance companies. In 2017, this paper received a “Highly Commended” award for Best ETF Paper by Savvy Investor and in 2018, the paper received “Best ETFs Paper” award. Minimize

CFA, CAIA, is head of Pension and Insurance General Account Solutions in Vanguard Institutional Investor Group. He is responsible for driving thought leadership, creating business strategy, and managing a team of professionals who are dedicated to delivering investment solutions to pension and insurance general account investment professionals across the United States. Mr. Sweppenhiser has served clients within Vanguard’s Institutional, FAS, and Retail divisions since joining Vanguard in 2007. Before his current role, he served as regional director to insurance general account clients and, prior to that, he lived in New York while a member of Vanguard Financial Advisor Services™. Mr. Sweppenhiser earned a B.A. in economics and business from Virginia Military Institute and an M.S. in financial services from Saint Joseph’s University. He is an active member of the CFA Society of NYC, a Chartered Financial Analyst® charterholder, and a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) charterholder.
