Share prices for US equity real estate investment trusts fell alongside the broader market during the week ended March 14.
The Dow Jones Equity All REIT index closed the recent week down 2.72%. The S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 2.27% and 3.07%, respectively.
Nearly all Dow Jones US real estate sector indexes closed the recent week in the red. The industrial REIT index saw the largest drop, down 5.92%, followed by the office and self-storage indexes, each falling 4.11%.
The healthcare REIT index was the sole property sector index to end the week in the black, up 0.35%.
Diversified REIT Armada Hoffler Properties Inc. posted the largest drop in share price among all US REITs with at least $200 million in market capitalization, down 16.23%. Two hotel REITs — Service Properties Trust and Summit Hotel Properties Inc. — followed next with share-price drops of 15.17% and 14.63%, respectively.
Conversely, healthcare REIT CareTrust REIT Inc. logged the largest share-price increase over the week, up 9.94%. Communications REIT Crown Castle Inc. ranked next with a share-price gain of 5.62%, followed by healthcare REIT National Health Investors Inc., up 2.99%.
