Robert Z. Lawrence is Albert L. Williams Professor of International Trade and Investment, a Senior Fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics, and a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. He currently serves as Faculty Chair of The Practice of Trade Policy executive program at Harvard Kennedy School. He served as a member of the President's Council of Economic Advisers from 1998 to 2000. Lawrence has also been a Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution. He has taught at Yale University, where he received his PhD in economics. His research focuses on trade policy.

He is the author of Crimes and Punishments? Retaliation under the WTO; Regionalism, Multilateralism and Deeper Integration; Single World, Divided Nations? ;and Can America Compete. He is coauthor of Has Globalization Gone Far Enough? The Costs of Fragmentation in OECD Markets (with Scott Bradford); A Prism on Globalization; Globaphobia: Confronting Fears About Open Trade; A Vision for the World Economy; and Saving Free Trade: A Pragmatic Approach. Lawrence has served on the advisory boards of the Congressional Budget Office, the Overseas Development Council, and the Presidential Commission on United States-Pacific Trade and Investment Policy.

Robert Litan is a nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, where he has previously been a senior fellow on staff, and vice president and director of Economic Studies. His current research focuses on federal regulation, entrepreneurship, and a broad range of economic policy subjects.

Litan is also a practicing attorney, as a partner with the law firm of Korein, Tillery, based in St. Louis and Chicago. He previously was a partner, Of counsel, and associate with two Washington, D.C. law firms, and served during the first term of the Clinton administration as principal deputy assistant attorney general in the Antitrust Division of the Justice Department, where he oversaw civil non-merger litigation and the Department’s positions on regulatory matters, primarily in telecommunications.

Litan currently serves on the advisory board of the American Antitrust Institute, is a consulting economist with Econ One, a national economic consulting firm, and is a contributing columnist for The Athletic, the nation's leading online sports media company. He also has advised several startups in the United States and abroad.

Litan earned his B.S. in economics (summa cum laude) at the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania; his J.D. at Yale Law School; and his M. Phil. and Ph.D. at Yale University. He grew up in Wichita, Kansas and currently lives and works in Lawrence, Kansas.

Matthew J. Slaughter is the Paul Danos Dean of the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, where in addition he is the Earl C. Daum 1924 Professor of International Business. He is also a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research; a member of the academic advisory board of the International Tax Policy Forum; and an academic advisor to the McKinsey Global Institute.

Dean Slaughter’s area of expertise is the economics and politics of globalization. Much of his recent work has focused on policy responses to the World Financial Crisis; on the global operations of multinational firms; and on the labor-market impacts of international trade, investment, and immigration. His research has been supported by several grants from organizations including the National Science Foundation and the Russell Sage Foundation. Dean Slaughter has published dozens of articles in peer-reviewed journals and books; he has co-authored four books, including The Squam Lake Report: Fixing the Financial System and Globalization and the Perceptions of American Workers; he has served in editorial positions for several academic journals; and he has presented at many academic conferences and seminars.

Dean Slaughter was a faculty member of the Economics Department at Dartmouth since 1994, and in 2002 he joined the Tuck faculty. In 2001 he received Dartmouth’s John M. Manley Huntington Teaching Award, and in 2012 he received Tuck’s Class of 2011 Teaching Excellence Award. He received his bachelor’s degree summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Notre Dame in 1990, and his doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1994.

Ella Smith is a professor of business administration at Tuck and works in the field of organizational behavior. She has previously served on the faculties of Belk College of Business Administration, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, the Sloan School of Management, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Yale's School of Management and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

The research interests of Professor Smith focus on the career and life histories of professional African-American and European-American women. She is currently inquiring into issues of work/life balance. She has served as a consultant to Fortune 500 companies and to many public institutions. Her scholarly works have been reported in many top publications, and her book, Our Separate Ways: Black and White Women and the Struggle for Professional Identity, has been widely acclaimed.
