Mariam Al-Shamma is a director in the Upstream E&P Terms and Above-Ground Risk team at S&P Global Commodity Insights, specializing in analyzing, forecasting, and benchmarking above-ground risks affecting the upstream oil and gas sector in the Middle East.

Mariam has covered political, economic and petroleum sector developments in the Middle East and North Africa for S&P Global (and previously S&P Global and PFC Energy) since 2012, with a current focus on Iraq, Iran, and the Gulf states. Her work involves providing insight on country-level trends and developments affecting the upstream investment environment, as well as the forecasting of global trends shaping upstream above-ground risks.Mariam was previously a strategy consultant with Monitor Group in its Dubai office, where she worked for government, private sector, and nonprofit clients on a range of projects across the Middle East.

She holds a bachelor's degree in international relations and French studies from the University of Pennsylvania, United States, and a master's degree in international affairs from Georgetown University, United States.
