Mark Rae, research and analysis associate director for the Upstream Costs and Technology team at S&P Global Commodity Insights

Mark primary areas of expertise are the offshore construction vessel markets, including offshore pipelay, diving support, remotely operated vehicle support, well intervention, and heavy lift vessels. Mark tracks market balance, contracting strategies, costs, commercial models, and market dynamics across a wide spectrum of vessel and related upstream markets. He is a frequent presenter at industry events, including Subsea UK, E&P Leaders Summit, Oil and Gas Pipes Conference, Offshore Pipelines Asia, DNV Pipeline Day, Offshore Pipeline Technology Conference, and Offshore Support Journal Conference. In addition to publishing reports on offshore vessels and subsea construction, Mark regularly undertakes face-to-face and remote market briefings with clients, and carries out bespoke consulting work on those markets and on wider oil and gas activity. Previous consulting topics have included the Norwegian offshore installation market; analysis of heavy lift activities in Central America; a study of contractors operating in Angola; and advising of a major conglomerate on market strategy in the construction vessels market.

Prior to joining S&P Global in 2007 as a reporter covering the field development markets in Europe and West Africa, Mark worked as an editor in a local newspaper group and spent a year with AMEC. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in journalism from Napier University, Edinburgh, United Kingdom. Mr. Rae manages S&P Global Commodity Insights Team.
