Matthew Piatek, director for the Gas, Power and Energy Futures practice at S&P Global Commodity Insights
Matthew is a director with the Gas, Power & Climate Solutions team within S&P Global Commodity Insights. He has more than 15 years of progressive experience across the energy value chain and covers North American regional natural gas dynamics, in addition to helping shape the overall market view. Topics of recent reports focus on the evolution of the natural gas landscape, including the critical role of infrastructure and shifting price relationships. Projects have included modeling cash flows from proposed infrastructure investments; generation portfolio assessment; gas procurement strategies; due diligence for power and LNG facilities; and pipeline competitiveness.
Matthew has breadth and depth of knowledge across the energy value chain and has held posts covering fundamental and quantitative research, energy trading analytics, trade control, risk management, and business development. His expertise includes infrastructure, trading operations, storage and transportation optimization, hedging and procurement, market fundamentals, modeling, strategy, and risk management processes.
Prior to joining S&P Global, Matthew held various positions with Superior Plus, BP, and Union Gas (Enbridge). He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Windsor (Windsor, Ontario), dual MBA degrees from Cornell University (Ithaca, New York) and Queen's University (Kingston, Ontario), earned with distinction, and a Master of Management Analytics (MMA) from Queen's University.
