Mark is a Senior Principal Research Analyst, Commodities at Sea, S&P Global Commodity Insights.

Mark Esposito is a senior principal research analyst focused on seaborne crude and refined product flows as part of the Commodities at Sea team at S&P Global Commodity Insights.

Currently, he leverages his experience in the financial markets to provide a comprehensive evaluation of global exports and imports by aggregating market fundamentals and technicals to support the data. Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, significant attention has been devoted to analyzing shifting trade partnerships, the Russian fleet, ship-to-ship transfers, and the subsequent ramifications on the global oil supply.

Mark has contributed to articles in the Wall Street Journal focused on the Red Sea turmoil, offered insight into the role of sanctions on the global oil trade at Petrospot’s Maritime Week Americas conference, and highlighted the rerouting of vessels in the wake of the Panama Canal drought during S&P Commodity Insights’ 2024 Caribbean Energy Conference.

Before joining IHS Markit (now part of S&P Global), Mark spent six years in New York City brokering crude and refined products futures and options on behalf of global oil companies and international financial institutions.

Mark holds a B.S. from James Madison University.
