Paul Ciannavei, associate director in the Trade & Transportation practice at S&P Global Market Intelligence.

Paul is a member of the Trade and Transportation team and is responsible for developing and delivering forward-looking insight, data and advisory for the commercial freight transportation industry and related public-sector planning organizations, such as State Departments of Transportation. He has worked on freight transportation data and forecasts for over thirty years with S&P Global and legacy companies, including the development of the first Freight Analysis Framework (FAF), for the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and many enhancements to S&P Global' s Transearch freight data service. These enhancements include the incorporation of large feeds of shipment data from the railroad and motor carrier industries. Paul primarily focuses on North American freight transportation markets, including the trucking, rail, and intermodal industries. Paul manages multimodal freight transportation market analysis and forecasting engagements, often working with the proprietary Transearch data and other S&P Global products, such as the Polk vehicle registration data and PIERS.

Paul has been a multi-term member of the U.S. National Academies of Sciences Transportation Research Board (TRB) Freight Transportation Data Committee. Earlier in his carrier he served in a variety of marketing and operations positions for large and small specialized trucking companies and owned an operated a small fleet of trucks. Mr. Ciannavei earned an M.B.A. from the University of Massachusetts and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard University.
