Platts launches US clean aluminum wheels assessment

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, has launched a new daily price assessment for the US aluminum wheels scrap market, effective Dec. 1, 2023.

The new assessment complements Platts established suite of aluminum scrap assessments and responds to market participants' reports of increasing demand for aluminum wheels scrap over the last year as they observed more recycling of wheel scrap as a key raw material for the production of high-purity aluminum-silicon alloys, including structural alloys.

Platts published the decision to launch the new assessment on Oct. 27 via a subscriber note here(opens in a new tab), following a proposal note published on Sept. 27 here(opens in a new tab).
