Lori was traveling to India from Tanzania on East Africa Express container route
No crew harmed, ship damage will assessed at Indian port, says source
New York — Lori, an Israeli-owned container ship, was attacked in the Arabian Sea on March 25, and is currently heading to India, where its damage will be assessed, a source close to the matter said March 25.
The unladen container ship had left Dar Es Salaam in Tanzania on March 20 and is now expected to reach Mundra in Gujarat, on India's west coast, according to data from S&P Global Platts trade flow tool cFlow.
A person familiar with the matter told S&P Global Platts that that no crew were hurt in the incident but provided no further details on the nature of the incident described as an attack.
Lori is owned by XT Shipping, registered in Israel. Shipping sources said the Liberian-flagged Lori was currently chartered by the Mediterranean Shipping Company on the East Africa Express container route.
The alleged attacks come amid high period of risk to shipping in the region after a series of incidents targeting oil tankers and ships dating back to 2018.
Earlier on March 25, Israel TV Channel 1 News reported that an Israeli-owned cargo ship in the Arabian Sea was attacked by an Iranian missile.
