Infographic: US clean energy policy, state by state

US states are diverging when it comes to clean energy policy, with stark differences in goals around renewables, energy storage and emissions.

The recent elections could have a significant impact on future changes in climate policy in several states, but particularly Virginia and Louisiana.

In Virginia, the Democrats regained control of the House and retained control of the state Senate, potentially giving them the ability to prevent Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin from reversing the state's direction on climate policy, particularly its goal of 100% carbon-free power by 2045, and removing it from the 11-state Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative. In Louisiana, the new Republican Governor Jeff Landry could remove the state from its climate leadership role in the South.
