Colombia has set forth an ambitious roadmap aimed at expanding the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) while addressing greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. However, the absence of local incentives for biofuel production poses potential economic risks. As global competition for low-carbon feedstocks intensifies, strategic planning becomes essential for Colombia to strengthen its position in the SAF market. Our consulting team was tasked with conducting a market study to assess the feasibility of producing renewable diesel and SAF in Colombia.

Solution

• Conducted a comprehensive market study to evaluate Colombia's capabilities for SAF and renewable diesel production, including analysis on feedstock availability and regulatory compliance (e.g. CORSIA, EU RED III for SAF).
• Analyzed the competitive landscape for renewable diesel and SAF in global markets, identifying key opportunities for Colombian producers to leverage local feedstock availability.
• Developed a SWOT analysis to identify the best business opportunities and/or potential setbacks for the client.

Results

Delivered key guidance to capitalize on emerging renewable diesel and SAF opportunities, enhancing Colombia’s competitiveness in the global biofuels landscape. We also provided insights to navigate regulatory frameworks, biofuels market opportunities and feedstock sourcing strategies, enabling the client to enter the biofuels market.

Challenge

Saudi Aramco sought an independent commercial due diligence (CDD) report to support a transaction involving its Jafurah midstream assets. The study required market analysis of sales gas, ethane, NGLs, and condensate, as well as global, regional, and KS market outlooks and investor support.

Solution

• We developed a comprehensive commercial due diligence workstream, providing detailed analysis of global, Middle East, and KSA markets for sales gas, ethane, NGLs, and condensate.​
• We prepared bottom-up supply-demand forecasts for each product across all relevant regions.
• Our report included a global energy outlook and an overview of the petrochemicals feedstock mix for both global and KSA markets.​
• We supported the transaction by presenting our findings in investor briefing sessions and addressing all investor questions.

Results

The CDD report and transaction support gave the client team a deep understanding of the market environment and played a key role in driving the transaction to completion.

Saudi Aramco successfully concluded an $11 billion lease and leaseback deal for its Jafurah gas processing facilities with a consortium of international investors, led by funds managed by Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), part of BlackRock.

Challenge

The Dominican Republic is emerging as a strategic market for fuel retail stations growth, driven by population, tourism, and industrial activity. However, infrastructure gaps and regulated fuel prices pose challenges for new entrants. Underserved provinces and a low station-to-vehicle ratio—versus regional benchmarks—highlight strong potential for retail fuel network expansion. The client, who is a Latin American fuel retailer engaged us to assess macroeconomics, market fundamentals, competitive landscape, and business opportunities.

Solution

• Mapped underserved regions by analyzing fuel station density, fuel demand, vehicle fleet growth, and EV coverage, highlighting high entry potential and gaps of up to 15,000 people per station.
• Benchmarked fuel and convenience store brands by market share, location, and competitive advantages, while also identifying strong coastal logistics. infrastructure, import dependency, and risks from price regulation and illicit trade.
• Estimated CAPEX for retail fuel station construction and analyzed EV station growth, highlighting urban hubs like Santo Domingo and Santiago as key investment zones.

Results

Evaluated the potential to expand fuel retail and convenience formats in fast-growing and underserved regions, based on population growth, ICE and EV’s vehicle fleet expansion, travel corridors, and station density. We also estimated the capital requirements for new station construction by assessing typical cost ranges based on site size and location.
