This supplementary report brings up to date the Process Economics Program's technical and economic information on processes for the manufacture of styrene and its primary intermediate, ethylbenzene. Previous PEP Reports on styrene were Nos. 33 (October, 1967) and 33A (March, 1973). Since the latter date, there have been improvements in catalysts and in process designs used in conventional plants for ethylbenzene synthesis and ethylbenzene dehydrogenation, additional units based on a hydroperoxide process for converting ethylbenzene to styrene have been announced, and development work has been started on a process for making styrene from toluene and ethylene.
