This report deals with the manufacture of nylon 66 from adipic acid and hexamethylenediamine (HMDA). Various polycondensation processes are evaluated and compared. Six nylon 66 products, e.g., textile yarn, high tenacity yarn, hosiery monofilament, bicomponent textured yarn for carpet, bicomponent staple fiber, and bristle monofilament, are studied and evaluated. The production of nylon 66 plastic resin also is evaluated. Not included in the report are the processing of resin to plastic products and the various fiber finishing processes such as dyeing, texturizing, heat setting, grafting, and other modifications. Nonwoven fiber is included in the process review but is not evaluated.
