Natural Gas
September 18, 2023
Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, seeks feedback on a proposal to observe Columbus Day as a daily natural gas pricing holiday starting in 2024, and on making July 5 a pricing holiday in 2024.
Currently, Platts does not observe Columbus Day as a pricing holiday in the Americas, although it is a federal holiday, and will publish a full set of daily prices for trade date Oct. 9 for flow date Oct. 10, 2023.
This proposal would mean daily North American natural gas prices data collected on Oct. 11, 2024, would be for flow dates from Saturday, Oct. 12 through Tuesday, Oct. 15. Gas Daily and CGPR daily prices would not be published on Oct. 14, resuming on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
This would not impact other sectors outside of natural gas and it would be a regular publishing day elsewhere in the Americas.
Platts is also proposing making Friday, July 5, 2024, a natural gas pricing holiday.
Similarly in the past, when a holiday falls on a Thursday, such as Thanksgiving, the Friday after would typically be a pricing holiday. Since July 4 falls on a Thursday in 2024, Platts is proposing to make July 5 a pricing holiday as well.
Natural gas price data collected on July 3, 2024, would be for flow dates from Thursday, July 4, through July 8. Gas Daily and CGPR daily prices would not be published on July 4 or July 5, resuming on July 8.
